With the removal of the 61-foot statues of Confederate Leader Robert E. Lee, some believe this is a turn for the best in Virginia but will this prove true.
On Tuesday, several Richmond residents watched and cheered as the monument was torn down in the former capital of the confederacy.
Since 2020, Virginia has removed over ten confederate statues, including two in Charlottesville, where white supremacy groups clashed with counter protesters in 2017.
In 2019, the state had the highest number of confederate statues in the country with a record; 110 statues across the commonwealth, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
