17% More Black Children Died of Abuse, Neglect in 2020 Than 2019


A new report reveals how COVID-19 has negatively impacted Black children who may be getting lost in the pandemic.

According to a new report by the Department of Health and Human Services, child deaths due to abuse and neglect fell last year. However, for Black children, that headline is false.

Five hundred and four Black children died from suspected neglect or abuse in 2020, which is 73 more than the previous year. A 17% jump, Black children are now considered 3.1 times more likely to die of abuse or neglect than white children.
