
The omicron variant now accounts for 90% of all cases in some parts of the U.S., but a new study shows that although it may be highly transmissible, itβs not causing as severe illness as previous variants.
As the New York Times reports, βMuch of the reduction in severity is linked to the fact that Omicron is better at infecting people who have already had a case of Covid. While so-called reinfection with Omicron is much more common than with Delta, these cases are less likely to put people in the hospital.β
