Reframing the Media Stereotypes of Black Fatherhood


Father’s Day is on Sunday, and there isn’t a better time to talk about how we can reframe the narrative of Black fatherhood. Black fathers are often portrayed in a negative light in the media. They are often shown as the deadbeat father or the parent who is not in the picture, while many Black men prove this narrative is false. A 2013 study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that Black fathers were the most involved with children, no matter if they lived with them or not, compared to fathers from other ethnicities. Jeff Johnson, host of the “Men Thrive” podcast and father of five, joins “Black News Tonight” with Marc Lamont Hill to discuss Black fatherhood.ย ย
