There are roughly 48 million caregivers in the United States. The duties can be stressful and financially challenging for people from all walks of life.
Research suggests that African Americans often handle caregiving better than their white counterparts due to culture and community, but that doesn’t mean it is easy. Bill Sweeney, the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), joins “Start Your Day” with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to give guidance on being a caregiver. Sweeney says being a caregiver has a broad spectrum, and includes things from taking loved ones to the hospital to giving medical care.
