Ashli Babbitt was one of the victims of the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, where she was shot by Capitol Police.
Former President Donald Trump and some Republicans have found their martyr in Babbitt, whom they believe was an innocent and wonderful woman. She was part of the mob that violently stormed the Capitol that left five people dead. Capitol officials have not confirmed identity of the officer who shot and killed Babbitt. Her death may be based on a false belief that she was killed by a Black man.
