Tennessee Proposes Fining Schools $5 Million if They Teach Critical Race Theory

The controversy involving critical race theory has taken another turn.

In Tennessee, according to a new guidance by the state’s Department of Education, they are β€œproposing a new rule that would impose fines as high as $5 million on school districts each time one of their teachers knowingly violates the state’s new restrictions on classroom discussions about systemic racism, white privilege and sexism,” Charles Blow said.

Tennessee was one of the first states this year to pass a law banning topics related to critical race theory from being taught in public schools.

Cardell Orrin, Tennessee executive director for educational advocacy organization “Stand for Children,” joins Charles Blow on β€œPrime” to discuss the proposal.

All this and more on β€œPrime.”
