President Biden Highlights Benefits in Infrastructure Plan for People of Color

Welcome to β€œPrime” hosted by Charles Blow.

Coming up, Senate Democrats and Republicans agreed on President Joe Biden’s $1 trillion infrastructure plan.

It would dedicate $110 billion to fixing roads and bridges, $66 billion to the construction and maintenance of railroads, $65 billion to rebuild the electric grid, $65 billion for broadband expansion, $39 billion to upgrade transit systems nationally and $55 billion to improve water infrastructure. The bill also plans to create over two million jobs per year over the next decade, as well as provide economic support to small Black and Brown-owned businesses.

According to a White House document, it β€œaddresses economic disparities in our economy and the consequences of decades of disinvestment in America’s infrastructure that have fallen most heavily on communities of color.”

Dr. Julianne Malveaux, dean of the College of Ethnic Studies at California State University Los Angeles, joins Blow on β€œPrime” to talk about the impact the infrastructure plan will have on the Black community.

All this and more on β€œPrime.”
