Black farmers across the nation are struggling to find funding, while white farmers fill courtrooms, crying discrimination.
Under President Joe Biden’s economic aid package, around $4 billion was designed for debt relief for minority farmers.
Even if the legal matter settles, many Black farmers face another hurdle: the requirement to prove they own their land.
In 1920, there were 900,000 Black farmers – that was only 14% of all farm workers.
Today, there are only 35,000 Black-owned farms which make up 1.7 percent of the nation’s 2-million farms.
John Boyd, Founder of the National Black Farmers Association spoke with Roland Martin during Monday’s edition of #RMU about the latest obstacle Black farmers must overcome before they can receive their share of the $4 billion in relief they are entitled to.
