Three police officers and two paramedics have been indicted on charges of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide as part of a 32-count indictment for their involvement in the 2019 death of Elijah McClain.
Aurora police released a statement that McClain resisted contact with officers before a struggle ensued. The struggle resulted in McClain being placed in a carotid hold which restricted blood flow to McClain’s brain, which caused him to lose consciousness briefly.
According to the investigative report commissioned by the Aurora City Council, the stoppage of McClain by these officers was completely unlawful.
Hans Menos, vice president of Law Enforcement Initiatives at the Center for Policing Equity, joins Charles Blow on βPrimeβ to discuss the indictments in Elijah McClainβs case.
