10 Years Ago: Birth of Occupy Wall Street Highlights Inequality


10 years ago today, hundreds of people filled Manhattan’s Financial District for Occupy Wall Street.

On Sept. 17, 2011, following the global financial crisis, demonstrators took to the streets calling out America’s wealthiest 1% during months of protests. “We are the 99%” is coined with protests erupting in cities across the country that continues to this day.

President Joe Biden and House Democrats are fighting for a tax hike on wealthy Americans and large corporations.
