Southern African Nations Face Issues As Omicron Variant Looms


Vaccination efforts began in South Africa six months after they did in the U.S. and other wealthy countries.

Though South Africa fares comparatively better the rest of the continent, they’re facing challenges that also afflict the U.S., such as getting doses to rural populations and combatting vaccine hesitancy.

The 54 nations in Africa all face their own unique challenges when it comes to getting the remaining 93% of the population vaccinated, like fragile health care systems, lack of transportation and unpredictable deliveries all play a role.

Dr. Matifadza Hlatshwayo Davis, director of health for the city of St. Louis, joins Charles Blow on β€œPrime” to discuss this issue.
