11-Year-Old Is Strip-Searched, Locked in Windowless Room by Teacher

Trigger Warning: Police Brutality

There is a growing outrage over an 11-year-old boy in Michigan, who was strip-searched and placed into solitary confinement at school as a form of discipline.

Xavier Johnson, a Black and Indigenous 11-year-old, attends a predominantly white, intermediate middle school in Mount Pleasant.

He was put in a windowless room in isolation without adult supervision after an altercation with another student.

A week earlier, Johnson’s mother says her son was subjected to a strip-search after another student accused him of bringing a firearm to school.

Johnson, his mother Cheyenne Johnson, and Christina Laster, director of policy and legislation at the National Parents Union, join Yodit Tewolde on “Making the Case” to discuss.

All this and more on “Making the Case.”
