Supreme Court Leaves Texas Abortion Ban in Place

The Supreme Court made a highly anticipated ruling today, just five weeks after hearing oral arguments in one of the nationโ€™s most restrictive abortion cases.

In an 8-1 decision, the court ruled that it will allow abortion providers to continue challenging a Texas law in lower federal courts, but it denied a request to stop the lawโ€™s enforcement. It means the law remains in place while the case moves back to district courts.

S.B. 8, which has been in place since Sept. 1, bans abortions after six weeks, which is before many women even know theyโ€™re pregnant, and it makes no exceptions for rape or incest.

Constitutional attorney and co-host of the podcast โ€œBoom! Lawyered,โ€ Imani Gandy joins Charles Blow on โ€œPrimeโ€ to discuss.
