Florida Advances Bill That Protects People From ‘Discomfort’ Over Race

On Jan. 18, a new bill that would criminalize public schools and private businesses in Florida that makes anyone feel uncomfortable in lessons or trainings about discrimination and the country’s history, passed a key state Senate committee in Florida.

According to the “Individual Freedom” bill, discussions of slavery and racism are permitted so long as they don’t cause “psychological distress” to people in the process.

The bill is backed by none other than Gov. Ron DeSantis and draws inspiration from the “Stop W.O.K.E. Act” he proposed last month, a takedown of “both corporate wokeness and critical race theory.”

Florida state Sen. Shevrin Jones joins Charles Blow on “Prime” to discuss the bill.

All this and more on “Prime.”
