Democrats are in a race against the clock to nominate and appoint a new Supreme Court justice ahead of the Midterm elections.

Typically, the process of seating a justice takes months, but it can be and has been done quickly.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett was seated in just 27 days in 2020 as the Republican-led Senate raced to confirm former President Donald Trump’s nominee ahead of the presidential election.

President Joe Biden is expected to announce his pick by the end of February.
