Fatal Police Shootings in 2021 Set Record, Despite Public Outcry


According to a new report by the Washington Post, fatal police shootings last year set a new record since the Post first began tracking these data in 2015.

The Post’s data shows, police shot and killed at least 1,055 people in 2021, the highest total since 2015. That’s up from 1,021 in 2020 and 999 in 2019. The rate at which Black Americans were killed is more than twice as high as the rate for white Americans.

Melina Abdullah, professor and former chair of Pan-African Studies at California State University, Los Angeles, joins Charles Blow on β€œPrime” to discuss.
