There will not be any criminal charges related to the February killing of Amir Locke who was shot while Minneapolis police were executing a no-knock search warrant.
The Hennepin County Attorney Michael Freeman and Minnesota attorney general Keith Ellison released the findings earlier today.
This is the reason why Freeman and Ellison said Officer Mark Hanneman will not be charged,
“After a thorough review of all available evidence, however, there is insufficient admissible evidence to file criminal charges in this case. Specifically, the State would be unable to disprove beyond a reasonable doubt any of the elements of Minnesota’s use-of-deadly-force statute that authorizes the use of force by Officer Hanneman. Nor would the State be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt a criminal charge against any other officer involved in the decision-making that led to the death of Amir Locke.”
Amir’s mother, Karen Wells, said she is not disappointed but disgusted by the city.
Tuesday, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey placed a permanent ban on no-knock warrants for the local police department. That policy takes effect this Friday, April 8th.
