10 rockets strike in Iraqi Base hosting US Troops

Around 10 rockets hit a military base in Iraq where some U.S. coalition troops are stationed on Wednesday, killing a U.S. contractor. The attack happened at Ain-al-Asad airbase in the countryโ€™s Anbar province, according to coalition spokesman Col. Wayne Marotto. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

BNC Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Nayyera Haq appeared on Start Your Day with Sharon and Mike to discuss the breaking news.

“This is a sobering reminder that the United States is still at war,” said Haq. “This has been oncoming with Iraq and Afghanistan for more than 20 years. This attack today comes on the heels of a United States response just like week.”

The U.S. struck a militia with ties to Iran along the Iraq-Syria border, per reports. Last year, Iran attacked the Ain-al-Asad airbase following the U.S. drone strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qassim Soleimani.

Iraqi security forces are investigating the attack on the base.
