Regina R. Robertson, contributing editor of ESSENCE, sat down with Sharon and Mike on Friday to talk about the long-awaited release of “Coming 2 America,” the sequel to Eddie Murphy’s 1988 comedic classic.
Robertson wrote the ESSENCE cover story for the film featuring the dynamic cast which includes returning stars Murphy, Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, John Amos and James Earl Jones. There are also new faces making it onscreen for the sequel such as Jermaine Fowler and a host of other comedic geniuses. But the biggest surprise is Murphy’s real-life daughter Bella, who makes her acting debut in the film.
“I think [Bella] really enjoyed being with her dad for her first movie and for her first ESSENCE cover,” Roberton said.
Sharon and Mike wonder if the buzz and anticipation around the sequel can live up to the original cult classic. Coming 2 America is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
