Candace Kelley joins Start Your Day to talk alternate jurors in Chauvin Trial

Fifteen jurors have been seated in the trial of former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin. Opening arguments are set to begin on March 29 at the Hennepin County courthouse. Despite requests from Chauvin’s legal team to delay and/or move the trial, Judge Peter Cahill has ruled that it will continue as planned. BNC Legal Correspondent Candace Kelley joined Start Your Day with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss what’s next in the case. Kelley said only 14 jurors are needed so Judge Cahill will dismiss one juror on Monday. The make-up of the 15 is six white women, three Black men, two white men, two mixed-race women and one Black woman. When asked who this favors, Kelley said “you just don’t know.”
