From pain to power: Overcoming trauma from gun violence

In an exclusive interview with BNC, Anthony Scott, the brother of Walter Scott, discussed the trauma he relives whenever a Black person dies at the hands of police. His brother Walter was shot multiple times in the back and killed by Michael Slager, who was a North Charleston patrolman, as he ran away unarmed. Walter’s death was one of the first deadly police shootings captured on video. Although years have gone by since Anthony Scott watched the video of his brother’s murder replayed in court and on television, he relived that pain during the Derek Chauvin trial. On “The World Tonight” with Kelly Wright and Nayerra Huq, Mattie Scott joined to discuss her loss. Mattie, who has no relation to Walter Scott, lost her son in 1996. Now, she’s advocating for change and an end to gun violence.
