The 93rd Academy Awards was held on Sunday, April 25, 2021. “Start Your Day” hosts Sharon Reed and Mike Hill talked about the event. Hill said he’s happy about the nominations, but he was “highly disappointed” that Chadwick Boseman did not win the award for the best actor. Reed also said the show “missed the mark” and was not as interesting as it was in past years. This year’s event was held in person after being virtual in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Despite this year’s nominations being praised for diversity in nominations, Reed also said it’s disappointing that it’s 2021 and Black creators are still breaking barriers for the first time in terms of nominations.
