With the NBA playoffs underway, one Hall of Famer is taking time to talk about diabetes. The condition is 60% more common in African Americans than others. Ray Allen and his wife Shannon have a son who has been living with it since he was 17 months old. Now, they’re partnering with a company to help monitor it. The couple joins “Start Your Day” with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to discuss their son’s diagnosis. Shannon says she was shocked when her son Walker was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. The couple is raising awareness to teach people about diabetes, what it means and how to improve the qualify of life for those living with the condition.
