Homeschooling on the Rise Among Black Families


Charles Blow talks to Casey Parks, contributing writer at The New Yorker, on the noticeable rise in homeschooling among Black families, mainly to have their kids avoid racism and inequality in the school system. Rates have increased from 3.3% in the spring of 2020, to 16.1% in the fall of 2020.

“Even before the pandemic, the number of Black families schooling to home school had doubled from about 84,000 to about 150,000,” Parks says.
