After Biden's First Wave Of Nominations And Appointments Should Black Women Expect More?

President Elect Joe Biden has nominated longtime diplomat Linda Thomas Greenfield as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

During the Obama Administration Thomas-Greenfield served as the Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs and from 2008 to 2012 she served as the U.S. Ambassador to Liberia.

Thomas – Greenfield was born in Baker, Louisiana in the early 1950s, where she attended segregated schools. She said growing up the KKK would visit her town and burn a cross in someone’s yard every weekend. She also encountered racism during her years attending Louisiana State University where David Duke, the Former Grand Wizard of the Knights of the KKK was also a student there at the time.

Shortly after the announcement was made Thomas – Greenfield tweeted “My mother taught me to lead with the power of kindness and compassion to make the world a better place.”

Thomas-Greenfield is just one of many Black women who have either been nominated or appointed to positions within the Biden Administration.

is Melanie Campbell, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation spoke with Roland Martin about the impact Black women may have on the Biden administration during Monday’s edition of #RMU.
