AG Garland Vows to Protect Voting Rights, Teen Who Filmed Floyd Murder Honored


On “Black News Tonight,” host Marc Lamont Hill opens the show with today’s top stories. United States Attorney General Merrick Garland vowed that the Justice Department would set up enforcement of federal voting laws. Republican state lawmakers have been pushing to enact tighter election rules, and Garland insisted that the right to vote will be given to all eligible people. Next, a federal judge has halted a loan forgiveness program for Black farmers after white farmers filed a discrimination lawsuit. Darnella Frazier, the teen who filmed George Floyd’s murder, will be honored by the Pulitzer Prize Board. In Texas, lawmakers approved name change requests for sites that still include the term “negro.”
