Alabama Wants To Use COVID Relief Funds To Build New Prisons


In the latest on the United States of COVID, the state of Alabama is trying to keep federal COVID-19 relief out of the hands of the people who need it most.

Instead of releasing funds to small businesses, families for childcare or for hospital support, they want to use COVID-19 relief money to build new prisons. Republican lawmakers plan to take $400 million for three new detention centers, as well as renovations to current ones.
