It has been nearly one year since former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin murdered George Floyd.
In the wake of Floyd’s death, protests and demonstrations were incredibly diverse, including people of all races. Recent polling conducted in part by the Associated Press found that 77% of Black people felt that police violence against the public is extremely serious or very serious.
Only 36% of white people felt that way. While 90% of Black people felt that police are more likely to use deadly force against Black people, only 46% of white people felt that way.
Activist Deray Mckesson joins Charles Blow to discuss the changing attitudes of America. He says the fight for racial justice went from something Black activists cared about to national news in 2020.
Mckesson also notes that media coverage changed when journalists began to experience violence by police.ย
