On Friday, the descendants of A. J. Smitherman, founder of The Tulsa Star—Tulsa’s first black newspaper and the first black daily newspaper in the nation spoke with Roland Martin about his legacy and about the 1921 Tulsa Massacre.
Smitherman was indicted for allegedly inciting a riot in Tulsa. But we all know the so-called riot was actually a “preconceived massacre” that stole the lives of at least 300 African Americans and destroyed the homes and businesses of African Americans in the city.
