Black Progressives Continue to Battle Against Establishment Democrats

Shontel Brown, the Democratic Party chair in Cuyahoga County, has won Ohio’s 11th Congressional District Democratic primary by defeating Nina Turner.

She will be filling the state’s congressional seat, which was vacated by U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge. Brown’s triumph over Turner, former co-chair of the Bernie Sanders 2020 presidential campaign, has led political analysts to question whether the true victory was among the establishment Democrats over Progressive Democrats.

Turner in her concession speech said that she will never let what happened to her campaign happen to other progressive candidates. Ben Jealous, president of People For the American Way, joins Charles Blow on β€œPrime” to discuss the future of Black progressives.

All this and more on β€œPrime.”
