Hours ago, President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth Act into law. The legislation establishes a new federal holiday. According to the president, Juneteenth doesn’t just celebrate the past, but it’s also about the work that needs to be done today. Juneteenth commemorates the day union soldiers told enslaved Black people in Texas they had been set free.
