U.S. basketball star Brittney Griner will remain in Russian custody through at least July 2 after her detention gets extended for a third time.
Russian media outlets gave no timeline for Griner’s trial, But a top Russian diplomat said Griner would not be considered for detainee swaps until her case gets investigated.
Monday, State Department officials met with some of Griner’s WNBA team members to brief them on what the Biden administration is doing to secure her release.
The WNBA center was arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling in February at a Russian airport. Authorities said they found cannabis products in her luggage.
