California Takes a Page From Texas Abortion Law on Gun Rights

California Gov. Gavin Newsom pledged to apply Texasโ€™ strategy to gun rights.

He has issued a directive to his staff and state legislators to work on a law that would allow private citizens to file a suit against anyone manufacturing, selling or distributing assault-style weapons.

Taking a page from the Texas state lawmakerโ€™s playbook, Newsomโ€™s law would reward citizens up to $10,000 per suit in addition to court costs and lawyer fees against any violators in the state of California.

Hasan Kwame Jeffries, associate professor of history at Ohio State University, joins Charles Blow on โ€œPrimeโ€ to discuss Newsomโ€™s approach to gun rights legislation.
