Choreographer Camille Brown will make modern history as the first Black woman to direct and choreograph a Broadway show in 65 years.
She will be performing these duties in a reboot of the pioneering production “For Colored Girls,” that tells the stories of seven Black women trying to navigate a world of sexism and racism.
This comes as calls for diversity on Broadway have increased in recent years. In response to a push for inclusiveness, Broadway has announced a grouping of seven upcoming plays written by Black writers and/or featuring Black stories in its fall lineup.
