Day three in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin resumed Wednesday. Three witnesses took the stand, including Charles McMillian, who witnessed George Floyd being detained by Chauvin and the other officers. Body camera footage was also shown and in it, jurors hear Chauvin’s voice for the first time. BNC Legal Expert Candace Kelley joined Start Your Day with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to talk about McMillian’s emotional testimony. Kelley said the footage showing Chauvin’s voice “speaks volumes” to his character. She thinks it is going to have an impact on the jury because Chauvin will not take the stand and this is the only time they hear his voice. Kelley said the witness testimonies show the community wanted to help George Floyd and the police, meant to protect the community, did not help and caused harm.
