Roland Martin had an opportunity to talk with Former State Representative Don Ross, a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma who, in 1997 cosponsored legislation to establish the Tulsa Race Riot Commission.
The study opened the door to studying the events of the riot, and making recommendations about reparations.
During his chat with Roland Martin, Ross said, that the study is all that he wanted because it would open the door to other things.
In speaking about obtaining reparations for the survivors of the 1921 tulsa Race Massacre, Ross said, “There’s so much that could have been done, that should have been done … but white people and some of the Black lackies hid behind that and we never got done what we could’ve gotten done here.”
When asked about the City of Tulsa raising $30 million to construct Greenwood Rising and establishing a victims compensation fund in the oil rich state of Oklahoma, Ross said, “You can’t squeeze a dime out of them white folks.”
“Anybody that say we getting it [is] lying … the chamber of commerce, all them – lie.”
