Charles Blow & Judge Glenda Hatchett on the Racial Disparities in the US Maternal Mortality Rate

Charles Blow talks to Judge Glenda Hatchett about the racial disparities in the U.S. maternal mortality rate.

The U.S. has the highest rate of infant and maternal deaths in any high-income country and the Black women are four to five times likelier to have a pregnancy-related death.

Hatchett opens up about her daughter in law who died during childbirth.

β€œShe would have had a greater rate of survival had she been giving birth in some third world country,” Hatchett says. β€œShe was healthy; she was diligent about prenatal care. She did everything right, but they didn’t listen.”
