In the first part of the interview with Ursula Burns, Charles Blow asked her about how optimistic she is about America.
She opens and closes her book, “Where You Are Is Not Who You Are” feeling optimistic about the future. When former President Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016, she felt pessimistic and bought a house in London and lived there for the majority of his presidency.
Burns’ optimism comes from her mother and two siblings growing up in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York. She remains hopeful for an America where everybody helps each other out.
