Legal Expert Candace Kelley breaks down the class action lawsuit that was filed against Amazon.
The lawsuit revealed that Amazon was responsible for price gauging efforts to happen. Amazon allowed third parties to sell items that were more than 10% above their cost. Amazon was also selling essential goods 10% above cost.
All states have a price gauging law and in a state of emergency, you cannot inflate the prices on essential goods. During the pandemic if people were looking for toilet paper or masks, something that usually cost $10 was inflated to $50 or $60. One couple was able to make $70,000 because of price gauging. The lawsuit is declaring that Amazon could have stopped this price gauging scheme but instead of putting it to an end, Amazon participated in it.
