Emmett Till’s cousin is turning her pain into a mission to help others. Deborah Watts, co-founder of the Emmett Till Legacy Foundation, joined “Start Your Day” with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to talk about fighting racial injustice. It has been 66 years since Till’s death and she said they’ve been on a mission since 2005 when Till’s mother died. “We are at a point now where we want to demand justice,” she said as the family still waits for answers. Reed asked how she feels about Till’s white accuser, Carolyn Bryant, moving forward with her life and Watts said she has “more determination than anger.” She said her family understands compassion and empathy, but she said Bryant needs to be held accountable. “We want justice for Emmett Till,” she said.
