House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy opposes Jan. 6 commission bill that would create a bipartisan group to study the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Several republicans including McCarthy have downplayed the severity of the attack that left 140 police officers injures and five people dead. The Republican leader wants the political violence of Black Lives Matter protests to be investigated as well. Democratic strategist Ameshia Cross joins “Start Your Day” to speak about the comparison and McCarthy’s opposition.
“If the audience looked different, if the attackers were Black or Brown there’s no way you would see McCarthy or anyone on the Republican side try to stand down like that,” Cross says.
She also discusses how the face of terrorists have changed and how republicans are trying to win back Georgia during the midterm elections.
