After listening to hours of opening arguments and witness testimony, jurors were dismissed from day one of the trial for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. BNC Legal Correspondent Candace Kelley joined Start Your Day with Sharon Reed and Mike Hill to talk about the takeaways from day one. Kelley said one of the prosecution’s themes was signifying to jurors that Chauvin did not get up to remove his knee from Floyd’s neck. The full bystander video of the interaction was also shown and it was the first time some of the jurors had seen it from beginning to end. Kelley said she was surprised that Chauvin’s lead defense attorney, Eric Nelson, blamed bystanders for Chauvin’s actions saying they distracted him while his knee was on Floyd’s neck.
