Disgraced R. Kelly sentenced to 30yrs in prison for federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges

R & B singer R. Kelly will spend 30 years in a New York prison.

Wednesday’s sentence is from Kelly’s conviction last year on federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges — stemming from his efforts over the years to use his fame to ensnare victims he sexually abused.

Prosecutors asked for more than 25 years in jail.

Defense attorneys argued that Kelly should face a maximum of ten years, and according to unsealed court documents, They say the abuse Kelly dealt with as a child should account for a lenient sentence.

Now that he’s been sentenced, The former singer is expected to be taken to Chicago where he faces A federal trial for child pornography and obstruction charges.

Kenyette Barnes from the Mute R Kelly movement spoke with Roland Martin about the sentencing on R. Kelly during Wednesday’s edition of #RMU
