Dr. Jamila T. Davis has a story of redemption and following her dreams.
She became a multimillionaire by the time she got to the age of 25. However, in 2008 at age 31, Davis was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison for bank fraud in New Jersey. During her time behind bars, she made the decision to turn her life around by earning an associate degree in psychology, bachelor’s in Christian education and a master’s degree in African American Ministry. Also, Davis is fighting to dismantle the trauma-to-prison pipeline.
Her story will be featured on the VH1 Series “My True Crime Story,” hosted by rapper Remy Ma and will debut on Aug. 2.
Davis joins Laverne McGee on “Black News Tonight” to talk about her story.
