According to research by Eviction Labs, landlords have filed more than 735,000 evictions since March of 2020 in the six states and 31 cities they track.
It’s likely those national figures are much higher. According to the Census Bureau, 8.4 million people say they aren’t confident they can pay next month’s rent. At the start of the pandemic, renters in some areas of the country saw major deals on rentals, as rent prices dipped.
