Monthly child tax payments for millions of families are scheduled to end this weekend as Congress has failed to extend expanded child tax credits launched in response to the pandemic last year.
Almost half of Black and Latino children are expected to lose all or part of the expanded credits. According to progressive think tank The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, roughly 10 million children across the country could be in danger of falling back below the poverty line or deeper into poverty as the benefits end.
