Families of Black men killed by police meet with senators to discuss police reform

The families of Eric Garner, Botham Jean, George Floyd, Andrew Brown and Terrence Crutcher met with senators on Capitol Hill to discuss police reform legislation Thursday. BNC’s DC correspondent Bofta Yiman joined Sharon Reed on β€˜Start Your Day’ to share details about the meeting.

The families and civil rights attorney Ben Crump met with senior officials from the White House, South Carolina Republicans Tim Scott and Lindsey Graham, and Democratic senators Cory Booker and Chuck Schumer.

The group spoke about the George Floyd Justice and Policing Act, which includes a ban on chokeholds and qualified immunity. During his address to Congress on Wednesday, Preside Joe Biden urged lawmakers to pass the police reform bill by May 25, the one-year anniversary of Floyd’s murder.
