The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention extended its federal moratorium on evictions until June 30 to help slow the spread of COVID-19. BNCโs Bofta Yimam joined โStart Your Dayโ to discuss the details. This latest extension is the third time the deadline was extended. The CDC issued the order in September 2020 and it was supposed to expire at the end of that year. It was then extended in December and again after President Joe Biden took office. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said it is important to keep people in their homes and out of โcrowded or congregate settingsโ to help stop the spread of COVID-19. A study from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities looked at the COVID-19 pandemicโs impact on food, housing and employment hardships. It found that the impacts of the pandemic and economic fallout were widespread but Black, Latino, Indigenous and immigrant households were impacted more harshly.
