Georgia Governor, Brian Kemp, is prohibiting cities across the state from requiring masks to be worn in public to alleviate the spread of the coronavirus.
This executive order prevents local governments from enforcing mandatory face-covering orders. Instead of imposing a mandatory requirement, Kemp’s order states that residents and visitors in the state are “strongly encouraged to wear face coverings as practicable” when in public except when eating, drinking or exercising outdoors.
Savannah Mayor Van Johnson spoke with Roland Martin about Gov. Kemp’s attempt to circumvent local mask and face covering requirements to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
Johnson revealed that Kemp is now suing Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms over the city’s mask mandate and said, “We’re fighting coronavirus with one hand and we’ve been fighting our own state with the other.”
